Working in the construction industry can be tough. Harsh weather, hazardous materials, heavy equipment, and extra-long days can make it difficult to keep a mobile device safe and in good working condition – and most of the time, an “indestructible” case like Otterbox just isn’t enough.
That’s why many in the industry have turned to rugged phones (like the ones our partner, Sonim Technologies, designs) to ensure they have reliable communication tools that can withstand the toughest of job sites.
Sonim serves a variety of industries – focusing designs on fitting the needs of field workers across manufacturing, public safety, transportation, utilities, and of course, construction.
The Sonim devices come equipped with Push-to-Talk functionality (like the old black and yellow Nextel), enhanced display for outdoor use, and LED flashlight feature, rubber grips, and a full-touch display that even works when you’re wearing gloves.
JobFLEX had the opportunity to check out Sonim’s XP7 (which runs on Android) and it is really impressive.
- Fully submersible in water at depths up to 6.5 feet for up to 30 minutes
- Designed to be dropped from 6.5 feet onto concrete from any angle, even from atop a ladder
- Designed interior components to withstand the G-forces from sudden vibrations or impacts
- Completely sealed against the intrusion of dust and industrial micro-particles
- Uniquely designed for ease of use with large or gloved hands
- Extra-large battery that will easily make it through two shifts
- Powerful audio so that you never miss a call or alert on the jobsite
Beyond the tech specs, we really enjoyed the weight and durability of the phone’s exterior. The buttons on the face and sides are nice and big. The screen is really sharp and the brightness withstood direct mid-day sun.
And the fact you can run the JobFLEX app on this rugged device makes it that much more useful for you contractors. If you’re looking for a rugged phone, check out Sonim’s XP7 or one of their other devices. As the construction industry embraces mobile apps and technology it will only make sense to package rugged hardware with those applications to save contractors time and money while improving productivity.
